I am building an arcade cabinet to run MAME and other emulators. Currently the worst of the mechanical work is done. I started with a rather beat up arcade cabinet, which was a game called Oscar in it's last life. When I got the cabinet it had already been gutted, but I did get the CPU board for Oscar, as well as the Jamma harness for the cabinet, neither of which I intend to use. I also got the installation manual for the Oscar game, which appears to have been a conversion kit. What the cabinet was before that I have no idea.
The hardware specs right now are:
  • AMD K6-2 233Mhz NOW UPGRADED to DURON 700
  • 96Mb RAMNOW UPGRADED to 256M
  • 6G Hard Drive NOW UPGRADED to 20G
  • very old NEC multisync 21" monitor
  • older AT style microswitch keyboard, hacked to run the control panel

control panel has:
  • 2 8-way microswitch joysticks
  • 6 buttons per stick
  • spinner (serial mouse output)
  • trackball (PS/2 mouse output)
  • coin and start buttons for 1 and 2 players
  • 4 buttons for emulator control
I have a page with pictures and explanation here, it may be slow over dial up.
